Definition and Usage

The lang attribute is a global attribute. It specifies the language for element’s content, which helps to search engines and browsers.

In HTML 5, the lang attribute can be used in all elements, but in HTML 4.01, lang attribute cannot be used in the below elements.

<base>, <br>, <frame>, <frameset>, <hr>, <iframe>, <param>, <script> .

Example :

<p lang="es"> Este es un parrafo. </p>

In the above example “es” specifies that the content of the element is in the Spanish language.
